Making Room for What Matters ~ Audio Slideshow
Making Room for What Matters
An Audio Slideshow by Nancy Crute
Thanks to a chance invitation to participate in an Inipi (sweat lodge) Ceremony on a nearby farm, Nancy met Cheryl and her cow, Bridget. Bridget’s presence was so strong for Nancy that she began a photographic essay the next week! What started out as a photographic inquiry of Bridget the cow became the story of Cheryl and the cows that found her, an account of one woman’s conscious choice to love and the bravery to live her truth.
Cheryl took a leap of faith and followed her heart from working a job in the computer industry to maintaining a forty-acre farm and living close to the land. As Cheryl began this spiritual journey, influenced by the teachings of the Lakota people, a life of value began to unfold before her. Little did Cheryl know, by making room for what matters for herself, she was also making room for the cows to come home. Over the years neighborhood cows ended up on Cheryls land seeking grace and became part of the family.
Cheryl’s farm has been used as a harbor for people and animals alike. Spiritual seekers found their way to the farm for respite and the cows also came. Bridget being a very large white cow represented to Cheryl the white buffalo which is a sacred creature to the Lakota people. Bridgets presence was undeniable and this project was created in her honor. She has since passed on.
